[Mecha Luminary] Jordan Weisman is an American game designer, author, and entrepreneur. Weisman is considered by many to be the father of Western mecha through creating the Battletech franchise. Published by FASA, the original Battletech tabletop game arrived in the middle of the 80’s giant robot craze in the West. Its popularity eventually spawned a series of video games for PC (Battletech, Mechwarrior respectively) and consoles (e.g. Mechwarrior 3050), an RPG, a CCG, one of the first virtual reality games, and a saturday morning cartoon. Without exaggeration, Battletech single-handedly built the Western mecha genre during the 1980’s and 90’s.
Weisman is currently Chief Executive Officer of Project Archer.
