Hideaki Anno

[Mecha Luminary] Hideaki Anno (庵野 秀明, Anno Hideaki, born May 22, 1960) is an artist, animator, anime creator, director, screenwriter, actor, producer, and mechanical designer. He is most widely for creating Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Anno began his career in animation, working on Super Dimension Fortress Macross, the famous Daicon III and IV opening animations, and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. He eventually co-founded animation studio Gainax. His credits here include animation direction for Royal Space Force: Wings of Honnêamise and director of Gunbuster. This eventually led to Anno’s greatest work, Neon Genesis Evangelion in 1995.

Anno’s latest work was director of the 2016 live action movie Shin Godzilla.
